Route length: 45 km Download: TRACK Route: Otomin - B±kowo - Lublewo - Bielkowo - Straszyn Start: Otomin Finish: Straszyn OTOMIN - a broad village boarding with the south-west outskirts of Gdansk, nearby Otominskie Lake. Its character owes to hilly area, large forest area and rare natural curiosities, such as 400 years old oaks, growing by the lake beach. On the right side of the lake there is a natural teaching path where one can learn about plants and animals of the area. “AMBER HILL RESERVE”- an archaeological site of 5 ha including the remains of an amber strip-mine with several headings. The largest one is 40m wide and 15 deep. The amber mine is surrounded by a beautiful forest, hills and small lakes, next to B±kowo. LUBLEWO - old parish church, where a rector guides tourists in Polish and German. Tel: 0586827362. BIELKOWO - remains of an old large farm, several years ago you could see the court ruins. In the central farm square there is a smithy of XIX cent. On the right side of the road to Bielkówko, by the bridge over Radunia river, there is an old palace on the island. HYDROELECTRIC POWER STATION BIELKOWO - Between the first and the second World War the city of Gdansk searched for own energy supplies, thus during 1919-1937 eight power stations were built on the Radunia river. Yet the first power stations appeared in 1910 in Rutki (Kartuzy county) and Straszyn (Pruszcz Gdanski county) as a result of the mountain character of the Radunia. A gorge was built in Kolbudy and using the slope the river was shortened. The water collected in two reservoirs ran toBielkowo through steel and concrete pipeline. This enabled 45 m water slope and gave the Bielkowo power station, below the pipeline, broad power possibilities. The power station itself is located in a picturesque valley and behind the power station the Radunia turns into the Goszyn Lake. It’s the largest reservoir on the river, with the fresh water outlet for Gdansk. HYDROELECTRIC POWERPLANT STRASZYN - After World War II the whole Radunia cascade has been changed several times, yet the Centre of Hydroelectric Power stations has always been located there in Straszyn. Going along the right side of the Goszyn Lake we see a dam ahead of us, at the end of the lake, and the power station buildings on the left. All Radunia stations produce 30 000 MWh annually, which is adequate to the needs of a city such as Ko¶cierzyna. The energy obtained from the Radunia water, after transforming into electricity, is sent to a general energy network. Below the Straszyn dam, having crossed a narrow bridge over the Radunia, the route turns right and leads to a village Straszyn. There taking the main street Starogardzka, we get to Gdansk Orunia, where we meet Radunia again, in the shape of cannal. There is a convenient path along it leading to the city centre. Oprac.
